Public Speaking

That's right, I wish to share my thoughts on one of the most common fears among humans: the art of speaking in public. Last Thursday, I graduated from RJ Fisher Middle School. Every year, the staff chooses a smart, energetic student to make the graduation speech in honor of all that the graduating class has accomplished in the 3 years at Fisher. My friend Ryan was chosen to make the speech, and I know that he is absolutely terrified of public speaking. Yet he still went up and made a fantastic speech. I wondered how he accomplished this feat and so he told me.

Ryan said that the key to public speaking is knowing that all the practice you put into a speech will get you through it. He said that there is no need to worry about messing up since you have practiced and put in the work. "Don't worry about how you look or what you say- just put conviction and purpose behind all of your words." I guess that's the moral of the story. Don't think as much and speak with conviction and purpose. As the famous author Henry Keys once said, "Think once before you eat, and twice before you act. But think not once before a speech.
