Sleeping Habits

Alright, so one of the comments I hear most from health teachers and doctors is how much sleep a teenager really needs. I have always been a bit of an odd sleeper, because I find it hard to go to sleep at night, and I end up sleeping late the next morning. Recently, I've been stepping it up a notch, as I've been busy working on ideas for my blogs and waking up very late the next day. I hear all the time from both my parents and from doctors that this type of sleeping style is unhealthy and could do damage to my brain. I look at it this way; as long as I still get the proper amount of sleeping hours, which I do, and I don't have anything the next morning, which I don't, than I think it is fine. Just like eating meals, sleeping during the night and waking in the morning is something humans developed over time. However, just like eating at odd hours, sleeping at odd hours is different, not necessarily dangerous. It's just a lifestyle choice. I don't have any fancy stats to throw at you to prove I'm right, nor do I necessarily think I'm right. I'm happy with how I live, and if that causes me to have a shorter life than so be it. I would rather live 60 happy years than 80 years with people telling me what to do and how to act. When you're 16, both of those numbers sound really high. Just my thoughts.

This Blog...

As I announced earlier today, I have restarted both of my blogs and hope to keep the running for longer than two weeks. This blog never got off the ground, but I love the idea and hopefully anyone who reads this will love it too. I forgot to mention in my other post that I will be trying to schedule my posts for both blogs, with Otterworld being in the morning and this blog in the afternoon. I'm not sure why I chose this timing, but it appeals to me so that's what's happening. Otterworld, being more in depth content, will not be daily, but this blog probably will. I will be trying to add some voice recordings to both blogs, and I'm pretty excited about that. The Otterworld content will be made days ahead and should be very detailed, but this blog's sole purpose is to be brief and hopefully interesting. Hopefully, my ideas will get off the ground and this blog can finally hit it's stride.

MLB Trade Deadline Tracker

I'm a big MLB fan, and today is July 31st, or trade deadline day. I will be following it on all 3 of my blogs, providing up-to-the-minute trades and analysis. I'm sorry I haven't been blogging very much; I just transferred high schools! I hope this will make up for it.

Disclaimer:
All trades and rumors are from MLB Trade Rumors. You can visit them at www.mlbtraderumors.com. Feel free to go check them out; they run a really great MLB site. Please enjoy!

Public Speaking

That's right, I wish to share my thoughts on one of the most common fears among humans: the art of speaking in public. Last Thursday, I graduated from RJ Fisher Middle School. Every year, the staff chooses a smart, energetic student to make the graduation speech in honor of all that the graduating class has accomplished in the 3 years at Fisher. My friend Ryan was chosen to make the speech, and I know that he is absolutely terrified of public speaking. Yet he still went up and made a fantastic speech. I wondered how he accomplished this feat and so he told me.

Ryan said that the key to public speaking is knowing that all the practice you put into a speech will get you through it. He said that there is no need to worry about messing up since you have practiced and put in the work. "Don't worry about how you look or what you say- just put conviction and purpose behind all of your words." I guess that's the moral of the story. Don't think as much and speak with conviction and purpose. As the famous author Henry Keys once said, "Think once before you eat, and twice before you act. But think not once before a speech.

Impatience

I was out walking my dog earlier this morning when a strange event occurred. For those of you who don't know, I live right next to Courtside, a type of sports club. I was walking by the entrance that opens up onto Winchester Boulevard, when a women driving a car sped out onto Winchester at about 25 miles an hour. As I looked back, I realized that if she had waited, I would've passed her. She couldn't stand to be there a moment longer, and risked her life because of it. Winchester was full of cars, and she barely avoided being pancaked. It made me wonder, if life is so rushed, if it moves so fast, why are we speeding it up? You should enjoy every moment, not just hasten to the next thing. Life is short, so why spend it speeding around? You have obligations, I get it. But they can wait another 3 seconds. So the next time you rush, think about why you're doing it. Maybe you can wait those 3 seconds, and not be living in the fast lane.

Dogs

I wanted to share my memories of dogs today. Now, many of you know that I am big on dogs, and that I currently own one. I have lived with dogs my entire life. I write about them, take pictures over them, and play with them. I've written speeches about them, and experienced things that many people haven't. I've had dark moments and joyfull moments, from a new dog to a heart attack. I've had two dogs I grew up with for 11 years taken from me within half of a year. I know the highs and lows, the sickness and the toys. Can I have a life without dogs? Do I want one? No, I don't want a life without dogs. But sooner or later, dogs leave. Of that, I am sure of.
